The City District DCs and the Johns Lee Wood team would like to invite all Explorers, Network members and leaders across the City Districts to come and help us Wake up the Woods on Friday 1st March to Sunday 3rd March! We would like to get it ready for all the fun and adventure the year will bring to many scouting groups, within our city districts and beyond.
In small teams we will be help the wardens clear the site. Some of the tasks will include coppicing, clearing the camp sites from the recent tree felling and much more! (Please note steel toe cap boots or strong walking boots will be needed for some of these tasks – gloves and other safety equipment will be provided.)
This will be a free event and food will be provided throughout the weekend. We will also be providing the opportunity to try archery, shooting and climbing on the Sunday morning as a massive thank you for all your help and support. In order to try and make the most of activities we would appreciate it if you could indicate the preference of activities 1 being the activity the person attending would most like to do. (Please don’t forget all explorers will need shooting permission forms.)
This is a great opportunity for people to get involved in the woods and could also go towards badge work, for example the Activity Service Centre badge for explorers and I am sure there would be a relevant virtual badge somewhere for network members!!! It would also be a good chance if anyone was interested in gaining an adventurous activity permit or helping out as a warden a taster of what’s involved.
Bookings for this event need to be in to Lianne Mason by 15th February using the Wake Up the Woods Booking Form 2019. We will also need the Wake up the Woods Spreadsheet 2019 completed, if anyone has any questions please email
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
